At their November 27th meeting, the Board of Trustees voted to accept the Annual Education Results Report (AERR) as presented and directed Administration to submit the report to Alberta Education.
The Black Gold School Division develops the report to provide the Province with information related to progress made on the goals established in the previous year’s Education Plan. It is an integral component of the Division’s accountability and assurance practices for Alberta Education and to our school communities.
The AERR report is structured around Alberta Education’s four outcome areas:
- Alberta students are successful.
- First Nations, Métis, and Inuit students in Alberta are successful.
- Alberta has excellent teachers, school leaders, and school authority leaders.
- Alberta’s K–12 education system is well-governed and managed.
Each outcome includes analysis of provincial and local data, commentary on progress, and strategies for continued improvement.
“This past year has been marked by growth and adaptation within the school division,” said Norm Dargis, Associate Superintendent of Learning Services. “The successful transition of key administrative staff, the implementation of the new curriculum and the introduction of programs such as Visible Learning have been key achievements.”
Additionally, extracurricular activities, school trips, and other experiences have enriched students’ educational experiences, he added.
Other highlights for Black Gold include:
- Increased literacy and numeracy interventions and supports
- Stability and gains in Standardized Test results.
- Growth in areas related to First Nations, Métis, and Inuit and English as an Additional Language (EAL) student success.
- Increased awareness of comprehensive school and staff wellness.
- Emphasized career readiness and community engagement
The Division’s areas of focus for this year include the successful integration of Visible learning strategies and enhanced professional development for staff.
“We will maintain our efforts to identify and address student needs, and enhance student awareness of school programs and strengthen parent partnerships to support engagement, ” said Dargis. “Education planning is a collaborative team effort that forms the foundation of the success and well-being of everyone at Black Gold, and we are grateful to the teachers, administrators, support staff, students, families and community partners who are vital parts of our mission to inspire success.”
